Once again, it's time to sort through all the apples on the tree, throw down the ones full of worms, collect the ripe ones that aren't, and move as quickly as possible to can fresh jelly! Fast, because in a couple more days, it'll be time to harvest another batch or two of apples. ':-P I've already lost a batch of apples due to worms that snuck in in apples that weren't inspected to MY satisfaction. (you learn a few things when you're picking through apples on the tree for hours, and cutting them up later....for hours...) I'm hoping we get a grand total of 4 batches. I think that's a reasonable expectation, taking into consideration the number of worms, bugs, and birds. Next year, the tree will be sprayed!
**EDIT**
eh, hem. I owe an apology to my husband, who put those apples into the cooler. after cutting up apples just now, I found more worms than I ever expected to find. They just live in there. Apples, pears, etc. *sigh* I have some reading to do on how to get rid of these things. At least most of the fruit can still be salvaged (I was actually doing that right!) AND my decision to harvest yellower apples with a little pink was a good idea too! Less chance of the worms being in there/starting to mature.
BLECH!!!! :-X I HATE worms!!!!
So you know I gotta be desperate if I'm going through this process!!
